In our organization, we initially used Google Chat for internal communication and collaboration. While it worked well for meetings, we later started reassessing our setup due to recurring subscription costs and a need for better control over our communication data.
Because of this, we began exploring both cloud-based and self-hosted instant messaging solutions. Our focus has been on improving data security, customization options, and long-term ownership of our communication infrastructure.
We are currently evaluating self-hosted messaging software alongside other available tools to understand which approach best fits our requirements.
I’m interested in learning what other teams are using for instant messaging. Do you rely on cloud platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, or have you moved toward self-hosted solutions such as Mattermost, MirrorFly, Rocket.Chat, or similar tools? What factors influenced your decision?
