[Superpost] Questions about Screen Orientation

I do use other platforms that do have landscape support. But it seems like such a need to implement this in! it feels like its the #1 thing to implement 1st in an app making platform. Also i have not been using this app for a long time so I am not sitting on this, it is just for something so necessary they would have done it in 2 years. To be honest ill just go back to MIT app inventor because they have the bare basics.

I do not see a property called “rotation”, there is “rotate” but it doesn’t alter the simulation to landscape.

@Mark

Hey @gwhiz, you’re right. You won’t see the change in the design screen. You will need to test the app on your phone to see this change. It can make designing difficult. Perhaps you can report htis on the Github as a feature request?

My app look hideous on landscape mode. Is there a way to lock it on portrait or disable the orientation sensor?

Thanks.

Hi @Kegamo_Akiri,

Are you testing on an iPhone?

No, android

Isn’t that a system setting you can manually set?

Or, are you asking about the live preview app rather than your own app?

My own app.

Thank you, that’s where the problem was. I thought the live preview app had the same orientation settings with the finished app. It seems it has portrait only as default.

Is there a way to lock live preview app from rotating? I have locked the system, but it works on its own…

i want to set protrait screen orientation how to fix screen orientaion in app

Hi there,

As @point said, we are adding the ability to set Screen Orientation to the platform soon.

Thunkable apps are currently in portrait mode by default.

When is soon? Shouldn’t being able to change the orientation from profile to landscape and vice versa be a basic and essential feature?

You can force this operation through the settings in the design screen. set the rotation of the component or entire screen to 1.5708

Hey @trebbishopqfr61 can you tell us a little more about the type of app you’re trying to build and why you consider this to be “basic and essential” ?

Thanks

I’m trying to convert an app of mine made with classic Thunkable on the ThunkableX platform. In my app I use the writings inserted in the canvas and I followed the proposed method of rows and columns. I was able to insert the writings and rotate it being my app is in landscape, but I noticed that if the images are below the rows or the columns are no longer clickable, how can I solve this problem?

Thunkable Classic has an orientation sensor. Thunkable X does not appear to have one. I see conversations from 2018 about X getting one. Any progress?

Hi @gflint, welcome to the community!

Does the compass do something similar?

https://docs.thunkable.com/magnetometer

Different sensor. The orientation sensor senses when the device is rotated from portrait to landscape. I want to build an app that goes from text in portrait to maps in landscape. Easy in Classic Thunkable. Does not appear easy in X or if it is I can find a tutorial or video that shows how.

Interesting new discovery. I am working in X. Do a Live Test and rotating the phone results in the image rotating like would be expected. The image is messed up aspect wise but at least it rotates. Download the app and rotating the phone does zip. The image is on its side. This is a problem. I have to find a tutorial that shows how to solve this. If I cannot find the solution several projects I plan to use in my classes (I teach app development, or at least I am trying) are toast. Bummer.
