I am new and this is over my head

I am a service professional and wanted to try to create an app to run my business with so i have been searching and trying different drag and drop app creators but at the rate I am going I will be passed on. I pay $80 a month for the app I am currently using and would like to create my own and also offer it to my industry. If someone is knowledgeable enough to help me. I would pay you the $80 a month and I would sell the app to more people in my industry and would do a 50/50 split. The app I use now is called tap inspect you can try it out for free and see what i want to do also i have other add ons to add to make the app more rounded and useful for businesses. ihaulitjunkremoval@gmail.com is my contact. I can write out a how the app would work if interested. Thank You

It’s helpful if you include a link to the app.

Let’s say it takes someone 40 hours to build the app for you. That’s not unreasonable. At a typical consulting rate, they might charge you $4,000-$6,000 for the app. At $80/month, they would need to wait 4-6 years to recoup their time. A 50/50 split is only valuable if the app is insanely popular and millions of people download it. If it’s a niche product or not as good as the best in that app category, it’s not going to generate much revenue.

As a freelance app developer, I think a better offer is to pay the person to make the app and not split the revenue. But that’s my opinion. Someone else may be willing to work with you under those terms. I’m going to move this to the Freelance / Paid Help Opportunities category so hopefully it will generate some responses for you.

I agree with @tatiang here.

For my past experiences, especially when i was just starting and taking all the jobs i could for learn more and more, i would have accepted that.

But something that i learnt in those occasions is that i always overworked on the app, while embracing the project never led to any good result.

Eventually the app was perfect and performing well - but the idea behind it - or the niche - was not strong enough as my client said and made me believe.

So client only lost a couple of hundreds while i lost hundrends of hours of work.

Something else i would like to add here is that paying little money from the client won’t give the right push or commitment for himself. If the project falls the idea of “oh, nevermind i just lost a couple of hundreds” will arise, only damagin the developer.

What i would recommend is to set your budget and split the payments, something like:
10% on the confirmation of the job
20% when the project is shown to you from the developer and it’s approved by you
50% on the presentation of the MVP (minimum viable product)
20% on the publishing

Also dont forget that you’ll need to pay also all the external fees, if any (for example Apple developer’s progarm, Google Play’s, API, databases, ecc…)

Said that, i wish you the best of luck!

Thank you for the polite response,

@myclawquestlafqrb Personal attacks a squarely against our Community rules. Maurizio was merely trying to help and was in no way being condescending.

This is your first and only warning.

I probably should of not sent what I did but he put an opinion out there that had to do with getting taken advantage of in a situation like mine which is not the case. I am an instructor for a school that certifies students to be able to work in a couple of different trades. Anyways by him saying what he did, I had seen it as a warning message to everyone else not to help out. You can think he is innocent but he is not and should of kept a comment like that to himself. I ended finding someone to do my app for me but it wasn’t through your platform. I understand I should of not responded the way I did.

For me, it’s a red flag when someone asks for profit sharing in their first post on a forum. It usually means that they are not wanting to pay someone for their work. I’m not saying that was your intention but it’s something that happens frequently on coding forums. I hope you do find the collaboration you need here. It’s a great community.
