Hello Good Morning,
Sometime back we could align the text typed in the Text box component. There are videos talking about it but I cannot seem to find the Text Alignment option nor is it under Essentials. By default it comes right aligned, at least they could have made it Left aligned!! It looks so odd. Have they removed the feature? Will they put it back? Please advice. Thanks
Under essentials, it should be the writing direction. It is next to the strikethrough button.
That is how it looks for a Text component:
This is how it looks for Labels
Labels is following a universal alignment symbol and works fine.
Texts is doing something different and none of three options the Writing Direction provides hardly has any affect on the alignment.
Could you send a screenshot of what it looks like for you?
The design screen with Hints:
On writing to the LBL and TXT
For LBL you call it as Text Alignment, this is a age old feature which exists in all editors.
For the Text you have introduced Writing direction. Urdu they write from Left to right, Latin right to left I dont think there is any language in the world which writes from center in both the direction. That is what is causing the bug and <-----> writing direction fails to work.
I would suggest get rid of the writing direction setting as it does not make any meaning. If someone were to write in Urdu it would be actually “Writing from left to right” and that would fail. When someone says “left to right” this is how it should look “thgir ot tfel” what you are doing is just Left Aligned and calling it Left To right writing. Also if you plan to support Urdu then you have to support Japanese which goes up to down vertically. So my humble suggestion is please to get rid of this writing direction feature and put back the good old Alignment back or leave this alone and put back alignment back. BTW as you can see its spot is still vacant. That was how it was some time back.
Thanks for help hope you will get it fixed ASAP.
With writing direction, even if you set it ‘right to left’, it will display the same as ‘left to right’ if you are writing in English. I am not an expert in languages that go right to left so I don’t know how English is handled in right-to-left languages. But if you change the keyboard to one of those languages that write right to left, it does work as expected (the first letter you type stays on the rightmost side). I didn’t test every single language but it worked when I tried Hebrew. If this isn’t the case with a particular language, please let me know and I will take a look.
As for vertical writing support, it is a feature request I can pass on to our product team to evaluate. There are some traditional Asian languages that write vertically like Japanese, but I believe that modern Japanese does go from left to right so we do currently support modern Japanese.
