FearStep app not installing in my android APK

Hi Thunkable team,

I’m having a problem installing my FearStep Android APK.

Every APK builds successfully, but when I try to install it, Android reaches the normal FearStep installation screen and then shows “App not installed.”

Device: Samsung Galaxy S24 FE (SM-S721B)

Android: 16

One UI: 8.5

Package: com.mail.michaeladkins28.fearstep

Version: 1 (version code 1)

Latest APK: FearStep-v1-release (6).apk

Size: approximately 153 MB

FearStep is not already installed, so this is a fresh installation.

I have tried multiple generated APKs and they all fail in the same way. Normal Play Store apps install normally on the phone.

I have also contacted Thunkable Support by email but haven’t received a response.

Could someone please advise what might be causing the APK installation failure, particularly regarding the Android manifest, signing, minSdk/targetSdk or Android 16 compatibility?

Thanks.

Hi @michaeladkins287ky1s ,

Two things I’d look at:

  1. Have you disabled play protect? Sometimes that blocks the installation of apps it doesn’t recognise.

  2. Are you launching the APK from Chrome or Files or somewhere else? You’ll need to give the specific launching app permissions to install unregistered apps on your phone.

Hope this helps
Grant

Hi Grant, thanks for replying.

I’ve checked both suggestions:

- Play Protect is enabled, and the scan reports “No harmful apps found.”

- I’m installing the APK through My Files, and I’ve already enabled permission for My Files to install unknown apps.

The APK still reaches the normal installation screen, but after I tap Install, it says “App not installed.”

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S24 FE running Android 16. I’ve tried multiple APK builds, all with the same result, and other Play Store apps install normally.

Do you have any other suggestions? Could this be related to the APK signing, manifest, or Android 16 compatibility?

Thanks.

Try disabling Play Protect from the Play Store before installing. You can always re-enable it afterwards.
