I’ve been doing all of my serious development in the legacy interface. I prototype and teach (and WDC!) using the new drag-and-drop interface. But I would say if the old interface has everything you need, go for it. I don’t see any signs that that interface will be phased out soon.
And as @domhnallohanlon stated, we should be able to convert from old to new pretty soon.
