Text input component: characters typed in Android O/S appear with dark gray background

Hi Thunkers,

My text input box is working as required (black text on white background) in iOS but in Android, the input text appears black on a not-very-contrasty dark gray background. I would like to change this if it can be done. Can anyone point me to a setting or workaround to accomplish this?

I have discovered the reason for the dark grey background myself. It was unrelated to my app. It was appearing because the phone I was using for testing purposes had spelling prediction turned on. It was fine when this feature was turned off.
