There was an article recently about the best word to start with. I won’t spoil it but even after finding out what it was, I don’t use it. I like to be creative with my guesses.

I’ll usually start with something with two vowels like PASTE or CHEAT.

I recently switched to Richard Osman’s recommended starting word, which is [ALINE](https://www.walesonline.co.uk/lifestyle/fun-stuff/wordle-bbc-pointless-richard-osman-22879737). It covers a good few vowels and you also see whether or not the word ends in E. If the E is in the right place I’ll generally play SPOUT but if not I’ll try POURS or something that follows Susie Dent’s [top tips](https://www.her.ie/news/countdowns-susie-dent-shares-tips-mastering-wordle-546999) (Not sure how widely these celebs will be known outside the UK/Ireland? 😂)

It worked out nicely for me today:
