Some phone devices has an area, usually on the top of the display, that is used for other purposes and is not considered part of the display. This area is mostly used for the front camera. This is the `notch area`.

In this image (taken from the internet, source [123RF.com](https://www.123rf.com/photo_130742993_new-trendy-version-of-black-thin-frame-notch-display-smartphone-with-blank-white-screen-realistic-ph.html)) you can see a `notch area` in the top of the screen.
