![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex015/uploads/thunkable/original/3X/f/e/feff946e92dcf6afa47af261586f6c68ea69d8db.png) 2023 marks 100 years since the formation of the Irish government and 50 years since Ireland joined (the forerunner to) the EU but the tradition of celebrating St Patrick’s Day goes back [many centuries](https://www.rte.ie/culture/2021/0316/1204329-the-rise-of-the-st-patricks-day-parade/) before this. The first New York parade in [1762](https://www.nycstpatricksparade.org/about/history/) even pre-dates the Declaration of Independence by 14 years! While it probably won’t end up in any history books I’m extremely grateful to be marking my 7th Paddy’s Day as a member of this wonderful community and thankful for everyone in this knowledgeable and supportive group! _Go raibh míle maith agaibh_ ---
