# Forum setting to fix smart quotes

@jared Would you please consider disabling this setting in Discourse?

From what I’ve read online, it replaces quotes with smart quotes, thereby breaking JSON text that is posted on the forums without code blocks ( ``` before and after it).

actually, if you press the icon as shown below, the highlighted text will be considered as preformatted text

Yes, thank you. That’s one way. Another is to “bookend” the text with ``` marks at the start and end (on separate lines without other text).

The issue is that many users post JSON response text without doing either and it ends up invalidating the JSON. If the setting was disabled, I think the JSON text would appear correctly.
